How it works
The year bar shows how much of the calendar year has elapsed at your reference moment. It counts the whole days already finished, adds the fraction of today that has passed (hours × 3600 + minutes × 60 + seconds, divided by 86 400) and divides the total by the number of days in the year — 365, or 366 in a leap year. A leap year is any year divisible by 4, except century years that are not divisible by 400. So at noon on 2 July 2025 you are 182.5 days into a 365-day year: exactly 50.00%.
The smaller bars use the same method for the current quarter (Q1 Jan–Mar, Q2 Apr–Jun, Q3 Jul–Sep, Q4 Oct–Dec), the current calendar month, the current week and the current day. Weeks follow the ISO-8601 convention: they start on Monday, and week 1 is the week containing the first Thursday of the year. Everything is computed in your device's local time zone, so the day rolls over at your midnight.
The bars tick forward once a second. How is the year progress percentage calculated?

Does the bar handle leap years?
Yes. A leap year is any year divisible by 4, except century years that are not divisible by 400, so 2024 and 2000 have 366 days while 1900 and 2100 have 365. In a leap year the tool divides by 366, which is why 2 July 2024 at midnight is day 184 of 366, again exactly 50%.
