Free Online Finance & Business Tools

Free online finance calculators for the money questions that come up in a business and in a household, from break-even and profit margin to debt payoff and savings goals. Everything is worked out right on your own phone or computer, and nothing you type is ever uploaded.

Pricing and rates

Work out what you need to sell to cover your costs with the Break-Even Calculator, then sanity-check your pricing with the Profit Margin Calculator and the Markup Calculator. Before your next client call you can set a defensible number with the Freelance Day Rate Calculator or the Salary to Hourly Converter. The Reverse Sales Tax Calculator and the Meeting Cost Calculator round it out, the second telling you what that recurring hour actually costs.

Planning your own money

On the personal side you can plan a payoff order with the Debt Payoff Planner, work backwards from a target with the Savings Goal Calculator, and compare returns with the CAGR Calculator and the Net Present Value Calculator. The Position Size Calculator sizes a trade. Smaller everyday jobs are here too, from the Bill Splitter and the Price Per Unit Calculator to the Subscription Cost Calculator and the Inflation Calculator.

Your numbers stay with you

Your salary, debt balances, margins and portfolio figures are typed into the page and worked out on your own device. Nothing is ever sent to us, there is no account to create and no sign up, no email to hand over and nothing following you around to see what you worked out. Close the tab and the numbers are gone, which matters when the figure is your pay or your debt.

Frequently asked questions

How do you calculate your break-even point?

Divide your fixed costs by your contribution margin per unit, which is the selling price minus the variable cost of making or delivering one unit. If your fixed costs are 4,000 a month, you sell at 100 and each unit costs you 40, your contribution margin is 60 and you break even at 67 units. The Break-Even Calculator does this for you and also shows the revenue figure, which is easier to track than unit counts in a service business.

Is it safe to enter my salary or debt figures into an online calculator?

On these tools, yes, because the numbers never leave your device. Every calculator does its sums right there on the page you have open, so nothing is uploaded, nothing is saved anywhere and there is no record of what you typed. That is not true of every site: many finance calculators sit behind forms that pass your details on to lenders or brokers. As a general rule, avoid entering account numbers or national ID numbers anywhere, since a calculator never needs them.

What is the difference between margin and markup?

Margin is profit as a percentage of the selling price, and markup is profit as a percentage of the cost. Buy at 60 and sell at 100 and your margin is 40 percent while your markup is 67 percent, from the same 40 of profit. Mixing them up is a common way to underprice, since a 40 percent markup only yields about a 29 percent margin. The Profit Margin and Markup calculators convert between the two so you can price against whichever figure your industry quotes.
