How it works

The calculator works out the profit on a single round trip: you buy an amount of a coin at one price and sell it at another. Fees are charged on the value of each trade and added to the cost on the way in and taken off the proceeds on the way out, which is how most exchanges apply a taker fee. In formulas: total invested = quantity × buy price × (1 + buy fee ÷ 100), net proceeds = quantity × sell price × (1 − sell fee ÷ 100) and net profit = net proceeds − total invested. Return on investment is net profit ÷ total invested × 100.

Worked example: 0.5 BTC bought at 20,000 and sold at 30,000 with a 0.1% fee on both sides. The coins cost 10,000, the buy fee is 10, so 10,010 goes in. Selling grosses 15,000, the sell fee is 15, so 14,985 comes back — a net profit of 4,975 and an ROI of 49.70%. Notice the ROI is lower than the 50% price move: the fees eat the difference.

The break-even sell price is the price at which you get your money back after both fees: break-even = total invested ÷ (quantity × (1 − sell fee ÷ 100)). Add the number of days you held the position and the calculator also shows the annualised (CAGR-style) return, ((net proceeds ÷ total invested) ^ (365 ÷ days) − 1) × 100. Switch the first dropdown to enter an amount of money instead of a coin amount and the quantity is derived as amount ÷ buy price. Everything is plain JavaScript running in your browser: no price feeds, no signup, no ads, and none of your numbers leave your device.

Frequently asked questions

How do you calculate crypto profit?

Multiply your coin amount by the buy price and add the buy fee to get the total invested, then multiply the same coin amount by the sell price and subtract the sell fee to get your net proceeds. Net profit is proceeds minus invested. Example: 0.5 BTC bought at 20,000 and sold at 30,000 with 0.1% fees on both sides costs 10,010 and returns 14,985, a profit of 4,975 (49.70% ROI).

What is my break-even sell price?

It is the price at which the sale returns exactly what you put in after both fees: total invested divided by (coin amount x (1 - sell fee / 100)). In the example above, 10,010 / (0.5 x 0.999) = 20,040.04, so you need a little more than your 20,000 buy price just to get your money back.

Does this calculator use live crypto prices?

No. It runs entirely in your browser with no price feed and no network calls, so you type the buy and sell price yourself. That keeps it instant and private — your position size never leaves your device — and it lets you model hypothetical exit prices as well as trades you have already made.
