How it works
Enter the first and last day of your school year and this tool shows instantly how much of it
is behind you. Both dates are counted inclusively, so a year running 1 September to 30 June
is 303 calendar days long. School days are Monday to Friday only, minus any
holidays or breaks you list — write each one as YYYY-MM-DD, or
YYYY-MM-DD to YYYY-MM-DD for a range, one per line. Weekends are always
excluded automatically, so paste the ranges from your school calendar and the closure days
stop counting straight away. The headline percentage is school days completed divided by
total school days, which is how term progress is normally reported; the calendar-day
percentage is shown alongside because the two drift apart around long holidays.
Change the "Progress as of" date to look ahead or back — set it to the day before the holidays to see exactly how many school days are left after the break. Everything is worked out in your browser with plain JavaScript, using UTC date arithmetic so daylight-saving changes never shift a day. Nothing is uploaded, stored or shared, there is no signup and there are no ads.
Frequently asked questions
What percentage of the school year is over?
Enter your first and last day of school and the tool divides the school days already completed by the total school days in the year. School days are Monday to Friday, minus any holiday ranges you list. For a year running 1 September 2025 to 30 June 2026 with a two-week winter break, 5 January 2026 is 39.1% of the way through — 81 of 207 school days done.
How many school days are left this year?
The tool counts every remaining weekday between your "progress as of" date and the last day of school, then subtracts the holidays and closure days you paste in. It shows school days left, calendar days left and full weeks left side by side, so you can see the difference the breaks make.
Does it count weekends and holidays?
Weekends are never counted as school days. Holidays are excluded as soon as you add them: put one date or range per line, such as "2025-12-22 to 2026-01-02". The calendar-day percentage is shown too, which counts every day including weekends and breaks — that figure is normally a little ahead of the school-day figure during a long holiday.
