How it works
Enter your date of birth and the age you plan to retire, and the countdown updates as you type. Your retirement date is worked out with exact calendar arithmetic: the birthday is shifted forward by the whole number of years (plus any extra months, for pension ages quoted like “66 years and 2 months”). If the resulting day does not exist — a 29 February birthday landing in a non-leap year — it is clamped to the last day of that month.
From the “count from” date, which defaults to today, the tool shows the gap as years, months and days, as a plain number of days, as whole weeks plus leftover days, and as whole months. Working days count Monday to Friday only across the remaining span, and weekend days are the rest — so 7,804 days from 1 January 2026 to 15 May 2047 is 5,574 working days and 2,230 weekend days. If you also enter the date you started working, the progress bar shows how much of your working life is behind you: days worked ÷ total career length. Prefer a fixed date from a pension statement? Frequently asked questions
How many days until I retire?
Enter your date of birth and the age you plan to retire and the countdown appears instantly. Someone born on 15 May 1980 retiring at 67 reaches their retirement date on 15 May 2047. From 1 January 2026 that is 7,804 days, or 21 years, 4 months and 14 days. The tool also breaks that down into 1,114 weeks plus 6 days and 256 whole months.
How many working days are left until retirement?
The calculator counts every Monday to Friday in the remaining span and shows weekend days separately. In the example above, 7,804 calendar days to 15 May 2047 works out at 5,574 working days and 2,230 weekend days. That is a plain Monday to Friday count, and it does not subtract public holidays or annual leave, which vary by country and employer.
What retirement age should I use?
It depends on your country and birth year: the US full Social Security age is 67 for anyone born in 1960 or later, the UK State Pension age is 66 and rising to 67, and many private schemes allow 55–62. Use the preset buttons for 62, 65, 66, 67 or 70, add extra months for ages quoted like "66 years and 2 months", or switch to "Exact retirement date" and paste the date from your pension statement.
