How it works
This online piano turns your browser into a two-octave keyboard. Every key is wired to the Web Audio API: pressing one creates an oscillator at the exact equal-tempered frequency of that note (A4 = 440 Hz) and shapes it with a short attack and a decaying tail, so it sounds plucked rather than like a flat beep. Play with the mouse, with a touchscreen, or with the letters printed on the keys — a, s, d… run up the white keys and w, e, t… hit the black keys. Change the starting octave to reach the bass or the top of the keyboard, pick a different waveform for a softer or more chiptune tone, and adjust note length to go from staccato to sustained.
Everything you play is written into the Recorded notes box as plain note names, which you can copy into tabs, chord charts or practice notes. Download WAV re-renders that sequence — with your chosen waveform, volume, note length and the real timing of your key presses — into a 44.1 kHz WAV file created entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, no account is needed, there are no ads, and the whole instrument keeps working offline once the page has loaded.
Frequently asked questions
How do I play the piano with my computer keyboard?
Every key on the on-screen keyboard prints the letter that triggers it. The white keys run along the home row — A, S, D, F, G, H, J for C, D, E, F, G, A, B — and the black keys sit above them on W, E, T, Y and U, exactly like a real keyboard's layout. Keep going with K, O, L and P for the second octave. Use the starting-octave menu to move the whole keyboard down into the bass or up into the treble.
Is this online piano really free, and does it need an app or a plugin?
Yes, it is completely free with no ads, no account and nothing to install. The notes are generated live by the Web Audio API that is already built into your browser, so there are no sound samples to download and no plugin to enable. Once the page has loaded it will even keep working offline.
Can I record what I play and save it?
Yes. Every note you press is written into the Recorded notes box as plain note names such as C4 E4 G4, which you can copy into practice notes, tabs or chord charts.
