How it works
Press Play noise and your browser's Web Audio API fills a short buffer with randomly generated samples, loops it seamlessly and sends it straight to your speakers — nothing is streamed or downloaded. White noise has equal energy at every frequency, which is why it sounds like a flat hiss. Pink noise rolls off 3 dB per octave so it sounds balanced and natural, like steady rain, and brown (red) noise rolls off 6 dB per octave for a deep rumble similar to a waterfall or a distant engine. Blue and violet noise tilt the other way and are mostly used for testing and for tinnitus masking.
The low-pass tone control softens the top end without changing the noise colour, the volume slider is independent of your system volume, and the sleep timer fades the sound out and stops playback after 5 to 60 minutes. It plays until you press Stop, so leave the sleep timer on "Off" for all-night playback and keep the browser tab open. If you would rather it switch itself off, pick 5 to 60 minutes from the sleep timer and the sound fades out and stops on its own.
