How it works
This online drum machine is a step sequencer: eight drum sounds down the side, one column per 16th note across the top. Each square is a 16th note and the shaded columns are the down beats. Click a square to place a hit, press Play, and the loop repeats until you stop it. Start from a preset like four on the floor, boom bap or trap, then move the kick and snare around until the groove feels right.
Every drum is synthesised live with the Web Audio API — the kick is a pitch-swept sine, the snare and hats are shaped noise — so there are no samples to download and the beat is scheduled on the audio clock instead of a JavaScript timer, which keeps the timing tight. Add swing to push the off-beat 16ths late for a looser, more human feel. Nothing is uploaded: the pattern, the sound and the WAV export all happen in your browser, with no account and no ads.
