How it works
Enter your date of birth and this birthday countdown works out the next time your birthday comes round: if this year's date has already passed it counts to next year's, otherwise to the one still ahead. "Sleeps to go" is the plain calendar difference between today and that date, so a birthday tomorrow shows 1 sleep. The ticking clock underneath breaks the same wait into whole days plus the hours, minutes and seconds left until midnight on the big day, and it refreshes every second.
Alongside the countdown you get the weekday your birthday lands on, the age you are turning, your exact age today in years, months and days, the total number of days you have been alive and how far you are through the year since your last birthday. Leap years are handled with real calendar dates; if you were born on 29 February you can choose whether to celebrate on 28 February or 1 March in ordinary years. The .ics download gives you a yearly repeating calendar event you can import into Google Calendar, Outlook or Apple Calendar. Everything is calculated in your browser with plain JavaScript — your date of birth is never uploaded, stored or shared, and there are no ads or sign-ups.

How many days until my birthday?

When is my next birthday and what weekday does it fall on?
The tool prints the full date of your next birthday and the day of the week it lands on, so you know straight away whether it is a Saturday worth planning for or a Tuesday. It also tells you the age you will be turning, your exact age today in years, months and days, how many days you have been alive and how far you are through the year since your last birthday. What happens if I was born on 29 February?
29 February only exists in leap years, so in ordinary years there is no single correct answer — different places observe the birthday on 28 February or on 1 March. When you enter a leap-day date of birth the tool shows an extra option so you can pick which rule to follow, and the countdown, weekday and age-you-turn all update to match. In actual leap years the countdown always targets the real 29 February, and your age is still counted from the true birth date so you turn a full year older every year.
