How it works
This Scrabble score calculator adds up the standard English letter values — A, E, I, O, N, R, T, L, S and U are 1 point, D and G are 2, B, C, M and P are 3, F, H, V, W and Y are 4, K is 5, J and X are 8, and Q and Z are 10 — then applies your board bonuses. Tap any tile to put it on a double-letter (DL) or triple-letter (TL) square, or a double-word (DW) or triple-word (TW) square. The maths follows the official rules: letter premiums are applied first, the letter total is then multiplied by every word premium covered, and the 50-point bingo bonus for playing all seven tiles is added last. Switch the dropdown to Words With Friends for its different letter values and its smaller 35-point bingo bonus.
Blank tiles score zero but still take a square, so a blank on a triple-word still triples the
word — type ? before the letter to mark it. Everything is computed in your
browser with plain JavaScript: no signup, no ads and nothing you type ever leaves your
device. This tool scores a word; it does not check whether the word is valid in a particular
dictionary.
Frequently asked questions
How is a Scrabble word score calculated?
Add up the value of every letter, applying any double-letter or triple-letter premium to that letter first. Multiply that letter total by every word premium the word covers (double word = x2, triple word = x3, and two double words multiply to x4). Finally add the 50-point bingo bonus if you played all seven tiles. This calculator follows exactly that order: score = (letter values x letter premiums) x word premiums + bingo.
How many points is each letter worth in Scrabble?
A, E, I, O, N, R, T, L, S and U are 1 point; D and G are 2; B, C, M and P are 3; F, H, V, W and Y are 4; K is 5; J and X are 8; and Q and Z are 10. Blank tiles are worth 0. These values are identical in the North American TWL set and the international SOWPODS/Collins set, and the full chart with tile counts is on this page.
What is the bingo bonus and do blank tiles count towards it?
A bingo is playing all seven tiles from your rack in one turn, worth an extra 50 points in Scrabble (35 in Words With Friends). The bonus is added after all letter and word multipliers. Blank tiles score 0 points but still count as tiles, so they count towards the bingo, and a blank sitting on a triple-word square still triples the whole word.
