How it works

This online metronome uses the Web Audio API, so every click is scheduled on the browser's audio clock rather than a JavaScript timer โ€” that keeps the beat rock steady instead of drifting the way setInterval does. Set any tempo from 20 to 300 BPM by typing it, dragging the slider, or hitting Tap tempo four or five times to the music to find the BPM of a song. Pick a time signature to get a louder accent on beat one, add eighth-note, triplet or sixteenth-note subdivisions for practice, and watch the beat dots to stay in time even with the volume down. Everything runs in your browser โ€” no account, no ads, and nothing is uploaded. You can also download the current pattern as a WAV click track to drop into a DAW or practise offline.

Frequently asked questions

How do I use an online metronome?

Set the tempo in BPM with the number box or the slider, choose a time signature so beat one gets an accent, then press Start (or hit the spacebar). Practise slowly first and raise the tempo by 5 BPM at a time once the passage is clean. Everything runs in your browser, so there is nothing to install.

How do I find the BPM of a song?

Play the song and tap the Tap tempo button on each beat four or five times. The metronome averages the gaps between your taps and sets the tempo automatically, so you instantly know whether a track is 92 BPM or 128 BPM.

Is this online metronome accurate?

Yes. Clicks are scheduled ahead of time on the Web Audio API's own audio clock rather than with JavaScript timers, so the beat does not drift even if the page is busy. If your browser blocks audio playback, the visual beat indicator keeps running so you can still keep time.
