How it works

Click the box — or focus it and press Space — to arm the test. After a random wait of one to three seconds the box turns green — click it again as fast as you can and the tool shows how many milliseconds passed between the colour change and your click. The random delay stops you from anticipating the signal; clicking before green counts as a false start and is not scored. Five tries make a round, and the average, best and worst are updated after every attempt so you can watch yourself warm up.

Timing uses the browser's high-resolution clock, so the measurement is accurate to a fraction of a millisecond — but the number you see also includes your monitor's refresh delay (about 8 ms on a 120 Hz screen, 16 ms on 60 Hz) and your mouse or touchscreen input lag. What is a good reaction time?

For a click-when-green visual test, the average human reaction time is roughly 250–300 ms. Under 250 ms is excellent and under 200 ms is elite, pro-gamer territory. Anything over 400 ms usually means tiredness, a slow screen or a stray click rather than slow reflexes.

How do I test my reaction time online?

Click the box to arm the test, wait — the delay is random between one and three seconds so you cannot anticipate it — and click again the instant it turns green. The tool shows the milliseconds between the colour change and your click, and repeats for five tries so you get a reliable average instead of one lucky result.

How accurate is this reaction time test?
