Nothing here is an installed font: each character is swapped for a real Unicode
look-alike (for example A โ U+1D400 MATHEMATICAL BOLD CAPITAL A),
which is why the styling survives copy-and-paste into apps that never let you change
fonts. A handful of glyphs simply do not exist in Unicode โ small-caps q and
x, for instance โ so those characters are left as-is rather than replaced with
something wrong. Text is split into grapheme clusters with the browser's
Intl.Segmenter, so emoji and accented letters pass through unbroken.

Why does fancy text sometimes show as boxes or question marks?
Fancy text is not a font. Each letter is swapped for a look-alike Unicode character, so the styling survives copy-and-paste. If an app's font has no glyph for that character it shows an empty box (tofu) instead. Older Android builds and some game chats are the usual culprits; picking a simpler style like bold, italic or small caps almost always renders everywhere.
Is fancy text safe to use in Instagram bios and usernames?
Bios, captions, comments and display names accept Unicode, so fancy text works there. Instagram usernames and most login handles are restricted to plain letters, numbers, dots and underscores, so they will reject it. Note that screen readers read these characters awkwardly, so keep important info in plain text too.
