Swim Pace Calculator
Work out your swim pace per 100 m or 100 yd, finish time, speed and split times for pool and open-water distances from any two inputs.
Enter any two of distance, time and pace — the third is worked out as you type.

Predicted times assume you hold the same pace for the whole swim, so they are planning estimates, not a performance guarantee — open water, turns, drafting and fatigue all move the real number. Nothing here is medical advice.
How it works
Swim pace is simply time divided by distance, expressed over a standard 100. The calculator converts your distance to metres (1 yard = 0.9144 m, 1 mile = 1609.344 m), divides the swim time by it to get seconds per metre, then multiplies by 100 for pace per 100 m and by 91.44 for pace per 100 yd. Speed is the same number the other way round: metres per second times 3.6 gives km/h, divided by 1.609344 gives mph. Example: 1500 m in 25:00 is 1.00 m/s, a pace of 1:40.0 per 100 m and 1:31.4 per 100 yd.
Pick what you want to solve for and fill in the other two boxes. Give it distance and time to get your pace, distance and pace to get a target finish time, or time and pace to see how far that gets you. The table then applies your pace to the distances swimmers actually race — 50 m through 1500 m, the 500 yd and 1650 yd pool classics, and the 1900 m and 3800 m triathlon swims — while the pool-length split tells you what to hit on the wall clock every length. Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate my swim pace?
Divide your swim time by the distance, then multiply by 100 to express it over a standard 100. For example, 1500 m in 25:00 is 1500 seconds ÷ 1500 m = 1.00 second per metre, which is 1:40.0 per 100 m — or 1:31.4 per 100 yd, since a yard is 0.9144 m. The calculator converts both ways and can also work backwards to a finish time or a distance.
What is a good swim pace per 100 m?
For adult lap swimmers, roughly 2:30–3:00 per 100 m is a comfortable beginner pace, 1:50–2:15 is solid recreational fitness, 1:30–1:45 is a strong age-group or triathlon swimmer, and under 1:20 is competitive club level. Open water is usually 5–15 seconds per 100 m slower than the pool because you lose push-offs and have to sight.
Does the calculator work in yards as well as metres?
Yes. You can enter distance in metres, yards, kilometres or miles and set pace per 100 m or per 100 yd, and the results always show both pace figures. The split table includes the 500 yd and 1650 yd pool classics alongside 50 m to 1500 m and the 1900 m and 3800 m triathlon swims, plus a per-length split for 25 m, 50 m, 25 yd, 50 yd and 33⅓ m pools.
