How it works
Type a number and this converter spells it out in English words as you type — whole numbers, decimals and negatives all work, up to 36 digits (that is hundreds of decillions). It uses the short scale (thousand, million, billion, trillion…), hyphenates compound tens the way style guides expect (“thirty-four”, not “thirty four”), and reads the part after the decimal point digit by digit as “point five six”.
Alongside the plain words you also get the ordinal form (“one thousand two hundred thirty-fourth”), a currency reading in dollars, euros, pounds or rupees, and a cheque line such as “One Thousand Two Hundred Thirty-Four and 56/100” for writing amounts by hand. Switch on British style to insert “and” before the last part, and pick the capitalisation you need.
