How it works
Enter how far you are driving, how much fuel your car uses and what you pay at the pump — the fuel cost of the trip updates instantly as you type. The maths is simple: the distance is divided by the fuel efficiency to get the amount of fuel, and that amount is multiplied by the fuel price. Drive 300 miles in a car that does 30 MPG and you burn 10 US gallons, so at $3.50 a gallon the trip costs $35.00.
Units can be mixed freely: measure economy in MPG (US or imperial), L/100 km or km per litre, price fuel per gallon or per litre, and give the distance in miles or kilometres — everything is converted internally (1 mile = 1.609344 km, 1 US gallon = 3.785411784 L, 1 imperial gallon = 4.54609 L). Tick "Round trip" to double the distance, and set "Split between" to share the cost between passengers on a carpool or road trip. How do I calculate the fuel cost of a trip?

Can I use L/100 km or kilometres instead of MPG and miles?
Yes. Distance can be entered in miles or kilometres, fuel economy as MPG (US or imperial), L/100 km or km per litre, and the price per US gallon, imperial gallon or litre. The units can be mixed freely — everything is converted internally, so a US MPG figure works fine with a price per litre.
