How it works

A dead pixel checker works by flooding your screen with one flat color at a time. On a solid red, green or blue field a dead pixel shows up as a permanently black dot, while a stuck pixel stays bright in a single color; on black and white fields both stand out immediately. Move close to the screen, wipe it clean first so dust is not mistaken for a fault, and step through all nine colors — some defects only appear on one of them. The stuck pixel fixer flashes rapid random colors over the whole screen, which can sometimes unstick a sub-pixel that is frozen on; leave it running for 10–30 minutes. (Skip the fixer if you are sensitive to flashing light.)

Everything happens locally: the colors are drawn by your browser with plain CSS and the Fullscreen API, and the display details are read from window.screen. No video, screenshot or device data is uploaded anywhere, and there are no ads or trackers covering the test area.

How do I check for dead pixels on my monitor?

Clean the screen first so dust is not mistaken for a fault, then start the full-screen test and step through all nine colors with the arrow keys or by clicking. Look closely at each flat field: a pixel that stays black on every color is dead, and one that stays bright in a single color is stuck. Black and white fields reveal most faults, but some only show up on red, green or blue, so it is worth going through the whole set.

What is the difference between a dead pixel and a stuck pixel?

A dead pixel receives no power, so it stays black no matter what the screen displays — it looks like a tiny permanent hole in the image. A stuck pixel still gets power but one of its sub-pixels is frozen on, so it shows a constant red, green, blue, white or cyan dot that is most visible against a black field. Stuck pixels can sometimes be revived; dead pixels almost never can.

Can a dead pixel be fixed?

A truly dead pixel usually cannot be fixed in software and needs a panel repair or a warranty claim — check your manufacturer's dead pixel policy, as many allow returns above a certain number of defects. A stuck pixel is a better bet: run the built-in stuck pixel fixer, which flashes rapid random colors to exercise the sub-pixels, for 10 to 30 minutes. Skip that mode if you are sensitive to flashing light.
