How it works

Paste any text and this cliché finder scans it against a built-in dictionary of several hundred overused phrases — corporate jargon like circle back and low-hanging fruit, marketing hype like game-changing and revolutionary, and tired writing clichés like at the end of the day. Every hit is highlighted in context, listed with how often it appears, and paired with a plainer alternative you can drop straight into the sentence.

The "per 100 words" figure is a density score: under about 1.5 reads clean, above 4 usually means the copy is coasting on stock phrases. Matching is case-insensitive, ignores curly versus straight apostrophes and treats hyphens and spaces the same, so next-generation and next generation both get flagged. Everything runs in your browser with plain JavaScript — your draft is never uploaded, stored or shown to anyone.

Frequently asked questions

What counts as a cliché in this tool?

The built-in dictionary holds several hundred phrases in three groups: corporate jargon (circle back, low-hanging fruit, move the needle, action item), marketing hype (revolutionary, world-class, game-changing, take it to the next level) and stock writing clichés (at the end of the day, back to square one, the tip of the iceberg). Each hit is labelled with its group so you can tell tired idiom apart from sales-deck filler.

How do I remove clichés from my writing?

Every phrase the tool flags comes with a plainer replacement — "circle back" becomes "follow up", "at the end of the day" becomes "ultimately", "utilize" becomes "use". Work down the list, swap the phrase for the suggestion, and re-check: the density score (clichés per 100 words) updates live. Under about 1.5 reads clean, above 4 usually means the draft is leaning on stock phrases instead of saying something.

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

No. The whole cliché dictionary is embedded in the page and the scan runs in your browser with plain JavaScript, so unpublished drafts, client copy and internal emails never leave your device. There is no account, no API key and no ads — the tool keeps working with your network disconnected.
