How it works

This calculator uses the standard air fryer rule of thumb: lower the oven temperature by 25 °F (about 15 °C) and cut the cooking time by about 20%. So a recipe that says "bake at 400 °F for 25 minutes" becomes roughly 375 °F for 20 minutes in an air fryer, and 200 °C for 25 minutes becomes about 185 °C for 20 minutes. Temperatures are rounded to the nearest 5 degrees because air fryer dials are not that precise, and the result is shown in both °F and °C.

You can flip the direction to turn air fryer instructions back into oven instructions (add the degrees back and divide the time by 0.8), and you can dial the adjustment up or down: choose "Extra" (50 °F / 30 °C) for cakes, bakes and anything that browns too fast, or a smaller time cut for thick cuts of meat that need the heat to travel to the centre. The chart underneath gives ready-made settings for common foods. Everything is computed in your browser with plain JavaScript — nothing is uploaded, there are no ads and no sign-up.

Air fryers are small convection ovens, so heat reaches the food faster and from every side. Preheat for 2–3 minutes, keep the basket in a single layer, shake or flip halfway, and check early. Crowded baskets need a few extra minutes; thin, breaded foods often need fewer.

Frequently asked questions

How do you convert oven time and temperature to an air fryer?

Use the standard rule: lower the temperature by 25 °F (about 15 °C) and cut the cooking time by about 20%. A recipe that says 400 °F for 25 minutes becomes roughly 375 °F for 20 minutes in an air fryer. Because air fryers are small convection ovens, the moving hot air cooks faster and browns sooner, so always start checking about three quarters of the way through.

What temperature is 400 °F in an air fryer?

Around 375 °F, which is about 190 °C. For delicate bakes, cakes or anything with a sugary coating you can drop a full 50 °F (30 °C) instead by picking the "Extra" adjustment in the calculator, because the fan browns the surface long before the middle is done.

Do I need to preheat, and does a full basket change the timing?

Preheat for 2 to 3 minutes for anything you want crisp, and cook in a single layer. A crowded or double-stacked basket blocks the airflow, so add a few minutes and shake or flip halfway. Frozen breaded foods usually need less time than the converted number, thick bone-in cuts a little more, so cook to a safe internal temperature rather than to the clock.
