Drop in a photo and this profile picture tester shows it the way social apps actually render it: cropped to a centred square, masked into a circle, and shrunk down to the tiny sizes used in comment threads and chat sidebars — 400 px for LinkedIn and Facebook, 128 px for Discord, 48 px for a Slack sidebar, 32 px for a timeline row and 24 px for a comment. Every preview is drawn with the Canvas API inside your browser, so the photo is never uploaded anywhere.
Use the zoom and move sliders to reframe the crop until your face fills the circle at the small sizes — that is where most avatars fail. The checks below flag the usual problems: resolution under 400 × 400 px, a non-square source that will get cut off, transparent pixels that turn white or black depending on the platform, and images so dark or so bright that they disappear against one of the two backgrounds. When it looks right, download the square PNG (what almost every site wants) or the circle PNG with a transparent corner mask.

What size should a profile picture be?
Upload a square image of at least 400 × 400 px — that is what LinkedIn, Facebook and X scale from. 512 × 512 px or larger is safer if you also want a crisp Discord avatar. The tester warns you when your photo is below 400 px on its shortest side and shows exactly how many pixels the square crop will cut away.
