How it works
Drop a PDF, type the text you want stamped on it — DRAFT, CONFIDENTIAL, a client name, a
date — and set the font, size, colour, angle and opacity. The placement preview updates as
you type, so you can see exactly where the watermark lands before you save. Choose a single
corner, a centred diagonal stamp, or tile the text right across every page, and pick whether
it goes on all pages, only the odd or even ones, the first page, or a custom range such as
1-3, 7.
The watermark is written into the PDF itself with the pdf-lib library running inside this page, so it becomes part of the document rather than a screenshot: the original text, fonts and images are copied through untouched and stay selectable. Nothing is uploaded — your file is read straight from disk, stamped in memory and written back to your device, which is what makes this safe for contracts, invoices and anything else you would rather not hand to a server. Standard PDF fonts cover Latin characters; for other alphabets use an image watermark tool instead.
Frequently asked questions
How do I add a watermark to a PDF for free?
Drop your PDF on this page and type the text you want stamped on it — DRAFT, CONFIDENTIAL, a client name, a date. Pick the font, size, colour, rotation and opacity, choose whether the text sits in a corner, across the middle or tiled over the whole page, and decide which pages get it: all of them, only the odd or even ones, the first page, or a custom range such as 1-3, 7. The placement preview updates as you type, and Download watermarked PDF saves the result. There is no sign-up, no page limit and no ads.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. The file is read straight from your disk with the browser's File API, stamped in memory by the pdf-lib library running inside this page, and written back to your device — nothing is ever sent anywhere, stored or logged. That makes it safe for contracts, invoices, medical letters and unreleased client work, and it also means the tool keeps working after you go offline, unlike the upload-based watermark services.
Does the watermark become part of the PDF, and can it be removed?
The text is written into each page's content stream as real PDF text, so it travels with the file, prints with it and stays crisp at any zoom — the original text, fonts and images are copied through untouched and remain selectable, because nothing is converted to an image. It is a visible watermark, not encryption: someone with a PDF editor can still strip it out, so treat it as a clear label of status or ownership rather than a security measure. Note that the built-in PDF fonts cover Latin characters only, so emoji and non-Latin alphabets are not supported.
