How it works
Type any text and it is encoded to ITU Morse code instantly, then turned into a real CW tone: a dit is one time unit, a dah is three, gaps inside a letter are one unit, between letters three and between words seven. Speed is set in words per minute using the standard PARIS reference, so 20 WPM gives a 60 ms dit. Lower the overall speed below the character speed and the tool switches to ARRL Farnsworth timing โ the characters are still sent at full speed but the spacing stretches, which is how most operators learn to copy code.
Playback uses the Web Audio API with a 5 ms rise and fall on every element, so the beeps sound like a proper keyed sidetone instead of clicking. Download WAV renders the same signal offline to a 44.1 kHz 16-bit mono WAV file that you can drop into a video, a practice playlist or a phone ringtone. What do the WPM settings do, and what is Farnsworth spacing?
Speed is measured in words per minute against the standard PARIS reference, so 20 WPM means a dit of 60 ms, a dah of 180 ms and three dits of silence between letters. Set the overall speed lower than the character speed and the tool switches to ARRL Farnsworth timing: each letter is still sent at full character speed, but the extra delay is spread between letters and words (3/19 and 7/19 of it). That is the recommended way to learn Morse, because you train on the real sound of a fast character instead of a slowed-down one you would have to unlearn later.
Which characters can it send, and what happens to the rest?
All 26 letters A-Z, the digits 0-9 and the standard ITU punctuation . , ? ' ! / ( ) & : ; = + - _ " $ @ are supported; letter case is ignored. Anything without a Morse equivalent, such as emoji or accented letters, is listed in a short notice above the output and skipped rather than silently mangled, so you can see exactly what will be keyed before you download the WAV.
