Ties are broken by the higher DEX modifier, then alphabetically — the usual table ruling for d20 games. The encounter is saved in this browser only, so a refresh or a locked phone will not lose it; nothing is uploaded or saved to a server.
How it works
Add every hero, monster and NPC in the fight, then run the turn order. Leave the initiative box
blank and the tracker rolls d20 + DEX modifier for you — the standard d20 / D&D
5e initiative roll — or type a number the players rolled at the table. Adding several copies of
a monster creates numbered entries (Goblin 1, Goblin 2, …) that share one group initiative,
unless you tick “Roll separately for each copy”.
The list is sorted from highest initiative down. Ties go to the higher DEX modifier and then to
alphabetical order, so the ordering is always reproducible. “Next turn” walks the list and bumps
the round counter when it wraps around; “Previous turn” undoes a misclick. Each row has an
amount box with Damage and Heal buttons that clamp HP between 0 and its maximum and mark a
creature as down at 0. Copy or download the order to paste it into your notes. The encounter
is kept in your browser's local storage, so refreshing the page or coming back after your
phone locks brings it straight back; “Start fresh” or “Reset encounter” clears it. Everything
runs in your browser with plain JavaScript — no accounts, no ads, nothing sent anywhere. Append
?seed=42 to the URL to make the dice rolls repeatable.
Frequently asked questions
How does the tracker roll initiative?
Leave the initiative box blank and it rolls d20 and adds the DEX modifier you entered, the standard d20 / D&D 5e initiative roll. If your players rolled at the table, type their number in instead and no dice are rolled.
What happens when two combatants tie on initiative?
The higher DEX modifier goes first, and if those match too the names are ordered alphabetically. That is the usual table ruling and it keeps the order reproducible, so the list never reshuffles itself between turns.
Can I add several copies of the same monster?
Yes. Set "How many" and the tracker creates numbered entries such as Goblin 1, Goblin 2 and Goblin 3 that share one group initiative. Tick "Roll separately for each copy" if you prefer every monster to roll its own d20.
