How it works
A halftone image recreates smooth shading with a grid of dots that grow in dark areas and shrink in light ones — the trick every newspaper and comic book used before digital printing. Drop an image and this tool measures the brightness of your photo under a rotated screen grid, then redraws it as circles, squares, diamonds or lines with the Canvas API. Everything happens inside your browser, so your picture is never uploaded.
Small dot sizes keep detail and look like a print screen; large dot sizes give the chunky pop-art poster effect. The classic screen angle is 45°, which hides the grid from the eye. CMYK color overlays four screens — cyan, magenta, yellow and black at different angles — for a real offset-print look, while Duotone lets you pick any ink and paper color. What dot size and screen angle should I use?
Small dot sizes (4–8 px) look like a real print screen and keep fine detail, while large sizes (20–40 px) give the chunky pop-art or comic-book look. 45° is the classic screen angle because the human eye barely notices a diagonal grid; 0° gives a deliberately mechanical, grid-like feel.
Is my image uploaded anywhere?
