How it works
Pick a duration — hours, minutes and seconds, or one of the quick presets — or switch to “To a date & time” to count down to a deadline, launch or birthday. Press Start and the big display and progress bar update several times a second, with an optional alarm sound when the countdown hits zero.
The timer is driven by the real clock, not by a tick counter: it stores the moment it should finish and compares it to the current time on every frame, so it stays accurate even if the browser throttles the tab in the background. Copy timer link gives you a URL that reopens this page with the same countdown pre-filled, and Download .ics reminder saves a calendar event for the finish time so your phone reminds you too. Everything runs in your browser — no account, no ads, and nothing about your timer is sent anywhere.
Frequently asked questions
How do I set a countdown timer to a specific date?
Switch the mode to "To a date & time" and pick the moment you want to count down to — a deadline, a launch, a birthday — using your own local time. The display switches to a days + hours:minutes:seconds format automatically, so a countdown to a date weeks away stays readable. Press Start and it runs until that exact moment.
Does the countdown timer keep running in a background tab?
Yes. The timer stores the exact moment it should finish and compares it to your device clock on every update, instead of counting ticks. Browsers throttle timers in background tabs, which makes tick-based countdowns drift, but this one simply reads the clock again when you come back — so the remaining time is always correct.
Will the countdown timer play a sound when it reaches zero?
Yes — an alarm tone plays when the countdown hits zero, generated in the browser with the Web Audio API, and you can turn it off with the checkbox under the controls. If you might be away from the screen, use Download .ics reminder to add the finish time to your calendar so your phone alerts you as well.
